As part of a two-year remodel, Midori Yoshikawa, interior and architectural designer, turned the master bathroom of this Mercer Island house into a peaceful retreat.
Yoshikawa’s classic contemporary style with a neutral color palette ensures a timeless design, and limestone flooring complements dark-stained cabinets. “I didn’t want to have a strong accent,” Yoshikawa says, “[The palette] has a more natural feel. Soothing, but it has a punch because of the dark wood.”
To eliminate the weight of that dark color in a small space, Yoshikawa floated cabinets above the floor, visually opening up the room. The glass shower door furthers the illusion of a larger space, and windows and skylights maximize natural light. Yoshikawa designed custom circular mirrors with soft backlights for the vanity.
